What is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum is a scaled Ethereum layer-two (L2) solution that utilizes optimistic rollups to achieve speed, scalability, and cost efficiency on Ethereum. It leverages the security and compatibility of Ethereum while offering higher throughput and lower costs compared to Ethereum. This is made possible by moving most of the computational and storage burden off-chain. The native token of Arbitrum is ARB, which is used for governance. Offchain Labs, the developers behind Arbitrum, announced the shift to a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) structure, the Arbitrum DAO. ARB holders can vote on proposals affecting features, protocol upgrades, fund allocation, and the election of a security council. Arbitrum has an ambitious roadmap for 2023, including the launch of its own layer-three solution called Orbit. It aims to enable developers to implement programs in popular programming languages like Rust, C++, and more with Stylus.
